Ranged Weapons in OSRS

Best Ranged Weapons in OSRS

Ranged is one of the most useful combat styles in Old School RuneScape, giving players powerful options for Slayer, bossing, raids, training, and PvP.

But there isn't one Ranged weapon that's best everywhere.

Some weapons dominate against low-defence monsters, while others become much stronger against bosses with high Defence. Your budget, ammunition, Ranged level, and target all matter.

Here are some of the best Ranged weapons in OSRS and where they shine.

Magic Shortbow

The Magic Shortbow is one of the classic budget Ranged weapons.

It requires 50 Ranged and offers fast attacks without costing a fortune. Adding a Magic Shortbow scroll upgrades it to the Magic Shortbow (i), improving its special attack.

For players progressing through the early and mid game, it's a simple and affordable weapon for general combat and training.

Rune Crossbow

Few weapons are as iconic for account progression as the Rune Crossbow.

Requiring 61 Ranged, it provides access to powerful crossbow bolts and can be paired with a shield.

Its affordability and versatility make it especially popular with Ironmen and players who aren't ready to spend huge amounts on upgrades.

It won't compete with end-game weapons for raw damage, but it offers excellent value.

Eclipse Atlatl

The Eclipse Atlatl is an unusual Ranged weapon obtained from Perilous Moons.

Unlike most Ranged weapons, its damage calculation benefits from the player's Strength bonus.

That creates some interesting equipment setups and makes it a useful alternative for certain accounts and activities.

Toxic Blowpipe

The Toxic Blowpipe has been one of OSRS's most recognizable Ranged weapons for years.

Its extremely fast attack speed makes it particularly effective against enemies with lower Defence.

The Blowpipe requires 75 Ranged and uses darts alongside Zulrah's scales.

Although it isn't the universal powerhouse it once was, it remains an excellent weapon for many PvM situations and general Ranged training.

Dragon Crossbow

The Dragon Crossbow is a step above the Rune Crossbow and requires 64 Ranged.

One major advantage is access to dragon bolts, allowing players to use powerful enchanted bolt effects.

It's a useful middle-ground option for players who want a stronger crossbow without immediately paying for one of the expensive end-game choices.

Armadyl Crossbow

At 70 Ranged, the Armadyl Crossbow provides another major crossbow upgrade.

It offers strong accuracy, long attack range, and access to enchanted bolts.

The Armadyl Crossbow is commonly used as a stepping stone toward more expensive Ranged equipment and can remain useful in several PvM encounters.

Bow of Faerdhinen

The Bow of Faerdhinen, commonly called the Bowfa, is one of the most important high-level Ranged weapons in OSRS.

It requires 80 Ranged and becomes especially powerful when combined with Crystal armour.

The Bowfa is accurate, powerful, and useful across a huge range of PvM encounters.

Its versatility is one of its biggest strengths, making it a major account upgrade for players moving into higher-level bossing.

Dragon Hunter Crossbow

If you're fighting dragons, the Dragon Hunter Crossbow is one of the strongest specialized weapons available.

It requires 70 Ranged and receives significant accuracy and damage bonuses against draconic creatures.

That makes it particularly useful against enemies such as Vorkath and other dragons.

Outside of dragon-related content, however, other weapons will usually provide better value.

Zaryte Crossbow

The Zaryte Crossbow is one of the strongest crossbows in the game.

Requiring 80 Ranged, it offers excellent accuracy and has a powerful special attack that works especially well with enchanted bolts.

It's primarily an end-game weapon due to its price, but it can be extremely effective in high-level PvM.

Twisted Bow

The Twisted Bow is one of the most famous weapons in all of OSRS.

Requiring 85 Ranged, its effectiveness increases against enemies with higher Magic levels and Magic accuracy.

Against the right targets, the Twisted Bow can deal incredible damage and is one of the best weapons available.

The downside is obvious: it's extremely expensive.

If you're building toward expensive end-game upgrades, having enough GP becomes a major part of progression. Players looking to increase their cash stack can buy OSRS gold through PartyPeteShop.

Which Ranged Weapon Should You Use?

There isn't one answer for every account.

For budget setups, the Magic Shortbow and Rune Crossbow provide excellent value.

For mid-game accounts, weapons such as the Toxic Blowpipe and stronger crossbows open up more PvM opportunities.

For high-level PvM, the Bow of Faerdhinen is one of the most versatile upgrades available.

At the end game, weapons such as the Zaryte Crossbow and Twisted Bow become incredibly powerful in the situations where they excel.

Final Thoughts

The best Ranged weapon in OSRS depends on what you're fighting.

A Twisted Bow might be incredible against one boss while a Blowpipe, Bowfa, or specialized crossbow performs better somewhere else.

Rather than buying the most expensive weapon possible, consider your current Ranged level, budget, ammunition costs, and the content you actually plan to complete.

Building a collection of Ranged weapons for different situations will ultimately be far more useful than relying on a single weapon everywhere.
