Best Food in OSRS for Combat and Bossing

Food keeps you alive.

Simple enough.

But once you start fighting stronger monsters, the food you bring actually matters.

Some foods provide cheap healing for ordinary Slayer tasks. Others heal large amounts in a single bite, making them much better for difficult bosses.

Then you have food combinations that allow you to heal extremely quickly.

Here are some of the best options.

1. Sharks

Sharks are probably the most recognizable high-level food in OSRS.

They heal a solid amount and are easy to understand.

One click.

One piece of food.

A large chunk of Hitpoints restored.

Sharks work well for Slayer, questing, PvP, and many PvM encounters.

They're rarely a bad choice.

2. Monkfish

Monkfish are a great option when you don't need the healing of more expensive food.

They're often useful for ordinary combat and Slayer where you're taking some damage but aren't in serious danger.

Why spend more GP per inventory when cheaper food already keeps you alive?

Save the expensive supplies for content that actually needs them.

3. Karambwans

Karambwans are incredibly useful because of how they interact with other food.

Players commonly eat another piece of food and then quickly consume a Karambwan.

This lets you restore a large amount of health in a short period.

That's particularly useful when a boss can deal heavy damage.

Karambwans are common in both PvM and PvP for this reason.

4. Manta Rays

Manta Rays provide strong healing in a single inventory slot.

When inventory space matters, high-healing food becomes more valuable.

This makes Manta Rays useful for difficult encounters where you want every food slot to restore as many Hitpoints as possible.

They're more expensive than basic training food, so using them everywhere usually isn't necessary.

5. Anglerfish

Anglerfish have a particularly useful feature.

They can potentially increase your Hitpoints above your normal maximum depending on your Hitpoints level.

That makes them excellent before difficult encounters.

Players can eat an Anglerfish before entering combat and begin with additional health.

For dangerous PvM, that extra buffer can make a meaningful difference.

6. Saradomin Brews

Technically, Saradomin brews aren't food.

But any discussion about high-level healing should include them.

Brews can restore substantial amounts of health and can be consumed in multiple doses.

They're common in difficult PvM where inventory efficiency matters.

The downside is that they affect combat stats, which is why players commonly pair them with Super restores.

7. Guthix Rests

Guthix rests are another specialized option.

They're not something most beginners need to worry about.

But experienced players can use them in situations where their particular healing mechanics are useful.

This highlights an important point.

The "best" food depends on the content.

Cheap Food Is Often Better for Training

You don't need premium food while fighting weak monsters.

If you're training combat against enemies that barely damage you, expensive healing is wasted GP.

Use cheaper food for ordinary training.

Save Sharks, Anglerfish, Manta Rays, Brews, and other expensive supplies for situations where their benefits actually matter.

What Should You Bring Bossing?

That depends entirely on the boss.

Some encounters need large amounts of food.

Others depend more heavily on Prayer.

Certain bosses encourage high-healing food, while others may benefit from combination eating or specialized supplies.

Before attempting a new boss, learn how much damage you're likely to take.

Then build your inventory around that.

Healing Isn't Everything

A beginner might fill almost every inventory slot with food.

An experienced player may bring less.

Why?

Because avoiding damage is often better than healing it.

Correct Prayer usage, movement, gear, and understanding mechanics can dramatically reduce the amount of food you need.

Best All-Around Food

If you simply want something reliable, Sharks remain one of the easiest choices.

For more demanding PvM, Anglerfish, Manta Rays, Karambwans, and Saradomin brews become increasingly useful.

For ordinary training, cheaper food is often more economical.

Final Thoughts

There isn't one best food for every situation in OSRS.

Sharks are reliable.

Karambwans are excellent for quick healing combinations.

Manta Rays provide strong healing per inventory slot.

Anglerfish are useful when you want to begin a fight above your normal Hitpoints.

And Saradomin brews become extremely valuable in harder PvM.

Choose your food based on what you're fighting.

Sometimes surviving isn't about bringing the most expensive inventory.

It's about bringing the right one.
